This all started a long time ago with my dad. It was a game we played while he was driving and I was in the front seat with him. We were usually in his 62 Impala or a VW Scirocco. The game started out very simple. Spot the Cop. See my dad had a this tendency to push past the local speed limits while driving. This called for a close lookout for the local law. Usually my dad would spot them and tell me about it. "Look up ahead behind that set of trees. That's s he's hanging out." One day he turned to me and said, " I bet I can find the cop before you can." Naturally I responded "Na ahhh...I can spot them before you." And, so it began. Every time I was in the car I was on the look out. My dad had now had an extra set of eagle eyes scanning the road. I even looked when my mom was in the car. I knew she didn't mind because she would smile at my dad If I spotted one. In the beginning my dad got them all. He would always somehow know where they were. He knew because he knew where to look. Soon though, I figured it out. I could spot them jsut a quick as he could. It really became fun when my dad got his first radar detector. As soon as the light flashed and it beeped, it was instant game time. "Where is the cop?" We would go up and down the roads of Alabama and Tennessee always on the look out even if we were not pushing the speed limit. It was a fun game. I became really good at spotting them. Then one day my dad changed the game. He said, "Keep and eye out for any hot rods." Once again he was really good, because he knew where to look. It was almost like he had x-ray vision. He would spot a rust bucket in a farmhouse on the other side of a field, and say "There's one." I became really good spotting them as well, which brings me to today. That passion I had as a kid is still in me. I look every day for a hot rod and not just for a pretty shinny machine with a big motor. I look for them all. I look for potential hot rods, I look for in progress hot rods, and look for new ones, ol' Skool, and muscle cars. This is why I created the I-Spy section of our site. I want to raise the level of the game and I want to invite you to participate. Have you seen one lately? If you have and take a picture, and we'll post it. The RULES are simple. 1. In you travels if your see a hot rod of any kind in your travels take a picture of it. ( Please use your head and pulll over to take the picture if you are in any kind of vehicle) 2. Tell us what you think about the "Spied" hot rod. Where did you see it? What did it sound like if it was driving by? Did you talk to the owner? What did they have to say about it? Basically we want a little story to go with the picture. If you do not have one that is OK. You can still submit it. 3. We are not looking for hot rods from car shows. That does not mean we don't want to see them. Look here for car show pictures. Feel free to post them in that section. This is a fun real life discovery! And, I personally cannot wait to see what everyone is seeing. |
