My daughters hot rod art handiwork

Last week was an interesting one for me and a piece of artwork I had just started. I was moving along smoothly and I was liking they new texture of the water colors. It's an adjustment to the the normal slick computer illustration work I normally work with. I have not painted in anything but the computer for a long time and I was excited. In fact the last time I did a paining it was before my two and a half year old daughter was born.

After a couple hours of steady work, I had to go pick my to little ones up from the babysitter. So I took break. As I was leaving I took one last glance over at the illustration and thought "This one is going to look good when I am done." I rushed over the the sitter and grabbed the kids. The whole time I was planing the evening. I would come home wash the dishes, get dinner started and get out normal routine over with and then get back to work on the illustration. I had the night planned full of hot rod art.

When we returned to the sitter I put the baby in his highchair and gave him some Cheerios to munch on and I told my two year old to take her water and go watch Elmo while I washed the dishes. Elmo and the TV are right in the next room so I can keep an eye on her. May drawing table is also in the some room, but around the corner. Zipping along with the dishes, I looked up and did not see my daughter. I casually walked over to see to look for her. When I turned the corner.......MAN OH MAN!...What was she doing standing in my chair hovering over the illustration. AND with a sharpie marker. Holy Smokes!...Did she draw on it? I jumped over to her, but it was to late. She had stamped her two and a half year old mark all over the illustration. I was speechless, well I might have said a few choice adult languages out loud, but for the most part I was to stunned to really comprehend what was happening.

I grabbed her off the chair and just looked at her. I really didn't know what to say. I just sat down and she sat with me.

Fast forward to today and with a whole lot of learning as a dad with babies around while doing artwork I have decided to post OUR HOT ROD illustration. If you notice she only drew in the areas, which had yet to be painted. I truly believe in her mind she was helping out. I plan to frame this one and keep it as both a reminder of  securing my work and to laugh at later as she grows.

Having fun with some ICONs

I woke up this morning  and I wanted to play around with some designs for an iPad/iPhone in case I am so inspired in the feature to create one. I created these to see what they might look like. Now all I need is an idea for Hot Rodders and an Application. Maybe it is hooked up to a weather reporting system that will give the barometric pressure and temps and dew points. It would be great for racers. Well what ever i come up with the icon / logo part has been started.

What do you think? Would this look good on your iPhone?

Should it have a hot rod in there instead or a race motor?

I could always put Olly Octane in there!... :)

Cobra Lunch

Iillustration for a guy in Atlanta.... It's the first round of color. I will be going back in and adding more detail and working on the color some more. there was a suggetion that I make the Chevy logo more like the real one. I thing that is a good idea. It was also suggested that I change the bones into broken engin parts. I really like that suggestion and will make that happen.  ANY OTHER ideas let me know!...

HOT ROD ART - Introducing Olly Octane

It's finally here!...Olly Octane - Hot Rod Art.   This guy has been in my Attic for over eleven years. I created him back in 1998. He has sat in my attic waiting for me to digitize and post on a site all this time. Keep an eye out for more to come with Olly.

Featured Artist Joey Kilrain

Joey Kilrain is an Artist, an owner of strategic design development company in Manhattan, and a big time hot rodder. He has been collecting his chariots for many years now, they include a 1964 Chevy Impala, 1965 Rambler Marlin, 1966 Chevy Impala, 1969 Ford GT Mustang, 1972 Chrysler Newport, 1972 Plymouth Satellite, 1973 Olds Cutlass Supreme, and finally 1985 Chevy Blazer. He did not go into any detial about his wide variety collection, but when I asked him to tell me a little about himself as an artist this is what he had to say:

"My soul has withstood many trials which has allowed for memory and mind to collaborate with many different media. Inspiration comes from the trials my eyes have witnessed and my soul to confront. During the creative process, I relive the emotions that lie within my mind. Art acts as a catalyst by easing the thoughts of mayhem and producing a sense of healing.

As an artist, my work consists of snapshots of my life in various media. Such images emanating from both my memory and psyche are captured in acrylics, pens & ink and papier mâché."
